All these walks are graded as harder/challenging.  They are 6 or more miles in length and last 3+ hours so bring a packed lunch.  The walks cross rough ground which is sometimes muddy so walking boots are needed.  The walks will include inclines (some steep), often go over stiles and require a good level of fitness.

As many of the routes go over land containing sheep or other livestock, dogs are not allowed on the walks.

Wednesday 17th January

A 3.5 hour, 10.4 km (6.5 mile) circular walk with 487 m (1600 ft) of ascent from the top of the Horseshoe Pass over Moel Gamelin.  Meet at 9.15 for a 9.30 start opposite the Ponderosa café (LL20 8DR  Grid Ref SJ 192 481  ///regulates.panic.drifters).  No dogs please.

Directions
The Ponderosa is on the A542 at the top of the Horseshoe Pass.  There is parking across the road from the café.

Wednesday 21st February

Join Roz and team for an approximately 4 hour, 13 km (8 mile) circular walk from Llangollen.  The walk will pass below Dinas Bran, contouring the Vale of Llangollen, go through Trevor woods and along Offa's Dyke Path, returning via Trevor and following the canal back to the start.  Meet at 9.30 for a 9.45 start opposite the Bridge End Hotel in Llangollen (LL20 8RY  Grid Ref SJ 215 423  ///searcher.perused.spindles).  No dogs please.
For anyone who would prefer to go by public transport, the Arriva number 5 Llangollen bus which leaves Wrexham Bus Station at 9.00 arrives in Llangollen at about 9.40 and stops opposite the Bridge End Hotel.

Directions
Coming from Wrexham, The Bridge End Hotel is opposite the left turn to the bridge over the river and just before the railway station.  Driving from Wrexham on the A539, go past the large Health Centre on the left as you come into Llangollen and about ¼ mile further along and just before the Ponsonby Arms, turn left into the long-stay (pay and display) car park (LL20 8RY  Grid Ref SJ 217421  ///movie.craziest.chew).

Wednesday 20th March

A 3.25 hour, 10.6 km (6.6 mile) circular walk with 324 m (1050 ft) of ascent from Chirk over the Chirk Aqueduct and through Weston Rhyn returning via Offa's Dyke Path.  Meet at 9.45 for a 10.00 start in the large car park behind The Hand Hotel off the B5070 (Church St) in Chirk (LL14 5DH  Grid Ref SJ 291 378  ///acid.majority.rebounder).  No dogs please.

Directions
Coming into Chirk from Wrexham along the B5070, drive past the Co-op, Kronospan and Chirk Court.  Then just past the Stanton House Inn (on the left) and about 100 metres before the War Memorial and road to the station and Chirk Castle, turn left into Colliery Road (signposted Car Park and Toilets) and then after 100 metres, turn right into Pwll Y Waun and into the car park.

Wednesday 17th April

A 3.5 hour, 11 km (6.8 mile) circular walk with an ascent of 396 m (1300 ft) from Glyn Ceiriog returning via Llwynmawr.  Meet at 9.45 for a 10.00 start in the car park at the Ceiriog Centre on the B4500 (New Street) in Glyn Ceiriog (LL20 7HE  Grid Ref SJ 204 379  ///mergers.alpha.rooms).  No dogs please.

Directions
Take the B4500 west from Chirk along the Ceiriog Valley through Pontfadog and into Glyn Ceiriog.  The visitor centre is on the right of the B4500 (New Road) as you come into the village.

Wednesday 15th May

A rail walk meeting at 9.25 at Wrexham General Railway Station to catch the 9.45 train to Chirk.  A linear 4.5 hour, 14 km (8.7 mile) walk with 586 m (1920 ft) of ascent from the station through the grounds of Chirk Castle to Pontfadog and on to Llangollen before returning by bus.  No dogs please.

Wednesday 19th June

A 4.5 hour 11.5 km (7.2 mile) circular walk with 740 m (2427 ft) of ascent from Llangynog over Y Clogydd to the waterfall and back.  Meet at 9.15 for a 9.30 start in the car park on Berwyn Street in Llangynog in the Tanat Valley (SY10 0EX  Grid Ref SJ 054 261  ///respects.idealist.trudges).  No dogs please.

Directions
From Wrexham, take the A483 (to Oswestry), then the A5.  Turn off the A5 on the Oswestry by-pass on to the A483 (sign posted Welshpool).  Then about 3 miles further south, turn right at the Lynclys Crossroads (by the White Lion Pub) on to the A495.  After about 2 miles continue straight on along the B4396 for about 10 miles to Penybontfawr.  Here, bear right on to the B4391 for about 3 miles into Llangynog.  Keep right by the church on to Berwyn Street and the car park is about 50 metres along on the right.
