All these walks are graded as harder/challenging.  They are 6 or more miles in length and last 3+ hours so bring a packed lunch.  The walks cross rough ground which is sometimes muddy so walking boots are needed.  The walks will include inclines (some steep), often go over stiles and require a good level of fitness.

As many of the routes go over land containing sheep or other livestock, dogs are not allowed on the walks.


Wednesday 20th July
A 7 mile 3.5 hour circular hill walk from Glyn Ceiriog with refreshments afterwards.  Meet at 9.15 for a 9.30 start in the car park at the Ceiriog Centre which is on the right as you enter the village on the B4500 (New Road) (LL20 7HE  Grid Ref SJ 204379  ///mergers.alpha.rooms).  No dogs please.

Directions - Take the B4500 west from Chirk along the Ceiriog Valley through Pontfadog and into Glyn Ceiriog.  The visitor centre is on the right of the B4500 (New Road) as you come into the village.


Wednesday 17th August
A 6 mile 3 hour circular hill walk.  Meet at 9.45 for a 10.00 start in the car park at the Community Centre in Llwynmawr (between Pontfdaog and Glyn Ceiriog) (LL20 7BB  Grid Ref SJ 222371  ///attitudes.flaunting.kennels).  No dogs please.

Directions - Take the B4500 west from Chirk along the Ceiriog Valley through Pontfadog.  About 1 mile further on, the road bends round to the left and 100 m after this and just past the Dolywern Leonard Cheshire Home, bear left on to Maesywern.  The car park is about 250 m along on the left.


Wednesday 21st September
A 7.5 mile circular walk with a total ascent of 1230 ft (375 m) from Llanferres through Llanarmon yn Ial and along Offa's Dyke path.  Meet at 9.45 for a 10.00 start from the large lay-by on the A494 Mold to Ruthin road, approx 500m south of Llanferres (CH7 5ST  Grid Ref SJ 187598  ///slant.primed.label).  No dogs please.


Wednesday 19th October
A 7.5 mile 4 hour circular walk over Moel Famau, meeting at 9.15 for a 9.30 start in the top car park for Moel Famau at Bwlch Penbarras (CH7 5SH  Grid Ref SJ 161606  ///pianist.also.pens).  No dogs please.

Directions - Drive out of Mold on the A494 (Ruthin road).  Go through Gwernymynydd, past Loggerheads Country Park and about ¾ mile further on, turn right (signposted Moel Famau).  Keep going up the narrow lane for about 2 miles, past the lower car park and toilets, and up to the top (pay and display) car park.


Wednesday 16th November
A 6 mile 3 hour circular hill walk.  Meet at 9.45 for a 10.00 start in Llangollen by the bridge opposite The Bridge End Hotel (LL20 8RY  Grid Ref SJ 215422  ///searcher.perused.spindes).  No dogs please. 

Directions - Coming from Wrexham, The Bridge End Hotel is opposite the left turn to the bridge over the river and just before the railway station.  Driving from Wrexham on the A539, go past the large Health Centre on the left as you come into Llangollen and about ¼ mile further along and just before the Ponsonby Arms, turn left into the long-stay (pay and display) car park (LL20 8RY Grid Ref SJ 217421  ///movie.craziest.chew) (£3.50 for the day).  Alternatively, there are other long-stay car parks over the river in East Street and Hall Street that charge the same but warning - the big car park in Market Street is now for short stays and charges £7 for the day!


Wednesday 21st December

A 6 mile 2.5 hour circular hill walk around Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog with the option of Xmas lunch at The Hand afterwards.  Meet at 9.15 for a 9.30 start in the centre of the village (LL20 7LD  Grid Ref SJ 157328  ///camps.mows.enacts).  No dogs please.

DirectionsTake the B4500 west from Chirk along the Ceiriog Valley for about 11 miles, going through Glyn Ceiriog.  Then keep to the B4500 through Tregeiriog for another 1.25 miles to Llanarmon DC where there is limited parking.
